World Radio Day

World Radio Day is celebrated every year on February 13.

On this day, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) declared November 3rd as World Radio Day in 2011. It is noted that the day is celebrated by all to celebrate the service of radio broadcasting, as a means of establishing cooperation among international radio operators, and to encourage decision-makers to share information through radio and community radio.

Also, the celebration of World Radio Day coincides with the creation of United Nations Radio (UN Radio) on February 13, 1946.

First World Radio Day:

The first World Radio Day was inaugurated on February 13, 2012, at the University of Pisa in Italy. Its aim is to convey information to people around the world at a low cost through radio.

World Radio Day 2014:

And as per the idea of UNESCO, the theme of World Radio Day 2014 has been adopted as the theme of gender equality and greater empowerment of women through radio.

The theme for 2018 is Radio and Sports.

The theme of World Radio Day 2023 has been announced as ‘Radio and Peace’.  It is noteworthy that this theme has been announced to realise the importance of the contribution of radio in establishing peace in the world.
